It's been a while since I sent one of these emails, so hopefully some the addresses on this list still work, and you remember having singed up at some point. I announced on Murketing.com the other day that the 2009 edition of Where Were You? is now available. There was a delay in sending this email because of a problem with my mailing list service that has now (obviously) been fixed.

FEATURING: Life, Death, More of the Same.

As you know, Where Were You? is a side project of mine that dates back many years: I note "where I was" when I learned of various notable deaths, and record any related thoughts. For the last few years, I have collected these entries into annual zines. For 2009, instead of printing and mailing physical zines, I'm making a year of entries available as a sort of e-zine. Also, instead of charging a buck or two, I'm making it available for free.

I have had great help and encouragement on this enterprise from Mr. Harold Check. In fact, I can safely say that without his efforts, technical and otherwise, there is no way I would have collected this year's entries in any public form.

We've used two fine ebook services to present WWY2009. The Scribd version includes some illustrations. The Feedbooks version does not.

You don't have to have a special e-reader device to make use of these services and get to this material -- in fact, it's easy to print it out if you like -- but it is compatible with new and/or popular devices.

Here is how to get Where Were You? 2009 -- whether you use an ebook reader or not:

1. If you use a Kindle or an iPad (or probably any ebook reader, so far as I know): Download from Feedbooks, or Scribd.

2. If you use a reader app on your iPhone (such as the Kindle app or Stanza, a good free reader app that you can obtain here): Download from Feedbooks or Scribd. I assume most readers on most smartphones work easily with Feedbooks or Scribd documents, but let me know if you have trouble.

3. If (like me!) you don't use any of that stuff, and you are happy to read it in the form of a PDF on your computer, or as a regular printout, Scribd is probably for you. Check out the "full-screen" book view for the complete retro zine experience. Where Were You? 2008 / Available ... right now.

Yes, it's that time again. The latest issue of my annual zine, "Where Were You?" is available. Documenting "where I was" upon learning of various high-profile deaths, as well as whatever observations I may have about the deceased, "Where Were You? 2008" covers the year ... 2008.

This year's issue has been produced in a modest run of 25 copies, 20 of which are now for sale via the link below. (I always hold back five or so issues for trades and the like.) There are a lot more than 20 people on this email list, so if you're interested, you know, act now.

Be advised that the price of this year's issue has risen to $2. This does not reflect improved quality or greater quality. It simply reflects a higher -- but still incredibly fair -- price.

Hi there, Rob Walker here, with a communique relating to the "Where Were You?" annual zine. I realize that this message means I'm sending twice as many of these as should this year, and I apologize for cluttering your inbox. I'll be brief.

A number of copies of the 2007 edition of "Where Were You?," are -- to my mild chagrin -- still available. I've opened an Etsy store in an effort to move them along: it's here.

On a related note, I've noticed several people have signed up for this email list in the last month or two. But while you newcomers wait for the announcement about the 2008 issue ... why not buy the 2007 edition? Just sayin'. No obligation of course.

Actually, maybe some of you did order it, and something went awry? If you ordered and did not receive the 2007 issue, write to me at rw@robwalker.net and the matter will be taken care of immediately.

Available Now: Where Were You? (2007)

So. Possibly you've forgotten by now, but at some point you signed up to be notified when the 2007 edition of "Where Were You?" went on sale.

It's early May of 2008, and it's a little embarrassing that it's taken so long, but I'm finally done and actually producing the thing -- printing, stapling, like that. Also I'm now officially accepting orders.

This year's version will be an edition of 40 copies. That's up from 30 last year, and I'm pretty sure that will be enough -- though to some extent I'm making a guess about how many people on this list will actually buy one.

Last year's sold out relatively quickly, so, you know, if you're interested, act now, as they say.

I'm hoping to finish all the printing and stapling over the next week, and start mailing them out by next Saturday.
