From time to time, I’ve had work reprinted in anthologies, or written forwards and introductions or other original pieces for such books. Here are some.
Flashed: Sudden Stories in Comics and Prose, by Josh Neufeld and Sari Wilson (editors). 2016. This “fresh take on the exquisite corpse method” includes the first (and only) fiction I have written since college.
Please Forward: How Blogging Reconnected New Orleans After Katrina, by Cynthia Joyce (editor). 2015. This impressive anthology includes an essay I wrote for OpenDemocracy.net.
Design and Violence, by Paola Antonelli and Jamar Hunt (editors). 2015. Includes my essay for the terrific MoMA online exhibition.
Hurricane Story, by Jennifer Shaw. 2011. Introduction to a remarkable book of photographs.
Brand Thinking and Other Noble Pursuits, by Debbie Millman. 2011. Forward to collection of Millman’s interviews with an impressive variety of branding experts.
Ad Nauseam: A Survivor’s Guide to American Consumer Culture, by Carrie McLaren and Jason Torchinsky (editors). 2009. Introduction to this enduringly useful collection of highlights from the indispensable Stay Free!
OBEY: Supply & Demand – The Art of Shepard Fairey – 20th Anniversary Edition. 2009. Original essay for this sweeping survey of the artist’s work.
Sponsorship: The Fine Art Of Corporate Sponsorship/the Corporate Sponsorship Of Fine Art, by Ryan McGinness (editor). 2005. Includes a Slate piece I wrote about the exhibition that inspired this collection of essays.
The Slate Diaries, by Jodi Kantor and Cyrus Krohn (editors). 2000. This best-of collection of entries from Slate’s (wonderful but now defunct) “Diary” column included one of my dispatches from New Orleans.
